What Is The Bee Forage Network?
We are creating a crowd-mapping service [as an extension of the beekeepers calendar] that will graphically present the local conditions around Vermont in a manner similar to pollen reports during hayfever season. Local observers - similar to weather spotters - will report flora in bloom and update the site from their portable devices in realtime.
This could be especially helpful to less experienced beekeepers who may not be familiar with the nectar flow in their area. If nothing else it might help beginners learn more about local conditions until they’ve gained the experience to know when the honey flows. In addition to a teaching tool this also could serve the historical record as a possible indicator of changing climate.
